Its Different

I remember the time when I was around 5 years old. I had a nice book. It was a book with beautiful pictures and very few written content as most of the kids' books are.
The book described the daily routine of perhaps an american kid. Each picture showed a round yellow clock with the time seen in it. I mention the pages below-
Page-1 Clock shows 8'O clock. The picture alongside is of a beautiful bedroom. A bed with red and yellow colored pillows, light blue colored blanket. Various toys in other interesting colors arranged neatly around the room. Toys like 'ride on horse', 'hopping bunny walker' and other plush ones. On the bed is the cute baby with rare innocent eyelashes. CAPTION - John wakes up
Page-2 Clock shows 9'o clock. The picture is now of the dining room. Again with all colors. The baby is sitting with a towel on his lap. Two forks, two spoons of varios types alongside another plate nearby. Babie's spoon is inside a yellow pudding. CAPTION - John takes his breakfast
Page-3 Clock shows 10'o clock. The picture is of a beautiful landscape. Very sweet lady in short skirts holding kids hand walking on the narrow lane near a pond. CAPTION - John goes for a walk with mom.
Page-4 Clock shows 11'o clock. A different room from one on earlier pages. Perhaps, it is a living room. The lady in a different dress now. The kid on her lap. She showing the kid something in a book. Both the faces are all smiles. CAPTION- Mom reads a story to John
Page-5 Clock shows 12'o clock. Again the dining table. Now with a chandelier above. Kid eating some other thing now with plate now of different shape. CAPTION- John takes lunch
Page-6 Clock shows 1'o clock. Kid now in the green garden with a regular shaped house shown in background. A white puppy with a black spot near his left eye along with the kid. The kid putting some milk in a saucer marked 'MILK'. The puppy's tongue in the milk. CAPTION - John feeds Birdy.
Page-7 Clock shows 2'0 clock. A pink color radio. With music notes coming out of it. Kid looking toward it with wonderful eyes and a smile with comfort. CAPTION - JOhn listens to music
Page-8 Clock shows 3'o clock. Baby to bed again. CAPTION - John takes a nap.
Page-9 Clock shows 4'o clock. Baby with 2 friends. One with orange hair and other with pink one. One is a boy and other is a girl. All are sitting under the tree and making a sand castle. It is a roman structure with blue and red cones. CAPTION - John goes to play
Page-10 Clock shows 5'o clock. Drawing room scene. Kid with a smart gentleman in overcoat. The man has a sharp nose and calm smiling face. CAPTION - John talks with daddy.
Page-11 Clock shows 6'o clock. Baby throwing a waste paper in red waste paper basket. CAPTION - JOhn cleans his room.
Page-12 Clock shows 7'o clock. Baby eating something. Whole family together - daddy, mummy and kid. CAPTION - JOhn takes dinner
Page-13 Clock shows 8'o clock. Bed room again. This time with a beautiful moon seen on the big window. One street lamp too seen through the window. It is dark outside. Black color is used for the first time in the whole book. CAPTION - John sleeps.
Page-14 There is no clock. There is no picture. Just a caption. CAPTION - John's day is over.
Now, I am 28. The other day I was reading reviews on 'Slum Dog Millionaire'. I agree to some that our country is not that bad. The way it has been projected in the movie. Still when I compare the daily routine of an indian kid with the one of John in the book, It pinches me somewhere. There are very few colors in their life. I may not say there is a bad side everytime. Still there is a difference. I know all kids don't get things like John in America too. Also, a book is a book, it is bit fake too. Still the difference is vast when I imagine an Indian kid. Vast difference is what I call things when the difference is one of 'reality' and 'dreams' and not one of 'can be possible' and 'not yet'.
